01 · KASTORIA

A town with many stories

A few things that make Kastoria special, before your first walk.

A town shaped by its lake

Lake Orestiada sets the pace: waterside walks, changing reflections and a different quality of light in every season.

Mansions with character

In Doltso and Apozari, mansions and narrow lanes reveal the character of Macedonian architecture and the town’s historic neighbourhoods.

A history of fur craftsmanship

Fur craftsmanship and trade are part of Kastoria’s economic and social history. Its mansions and local collections offer a way to explore that heritage.

Byzantine heritage

Byzantine and post-Byzantine churches, frescoes and icons bring another layer of meaning to a walk through the old town.

From the lakeshore to the mountains

Grammos, Vitsi and the surrounding forests invite you to plan an outing suited to the weather, the season and your experience.

Food and living traditions

Local dishes, celebrations and Ragoutsaria bring people together. Leave room in your plans for an unhurried meal or a walk through a festive neighbourhood.

Life beside the water

From a simple walk to an organised experience on the lake, choose what suits your day.

Walking & cycling

Follow the lakeshore or choose a shorter section of the peninsula loop. Take care where walkers, bicycles and vehicles share the route.

Birdwatching & nature

Bring binoculars and watch from a respectful distance without feeding or disturbing wildlife. The lake’s scenery and the birds you encounter change with the seasons.

Photography by the water

Morning light, reflections, old houses and lakeside trees offer changing compositions. Stay on safe, accessible paths and keep away from nesting birds.

Canoeing & kayaking

Enquire about a supervised experience with a professional operator, if one is available during your stay. Confirm equipment, life jackets, suitable weather and any participation requirements.

Pedal boats

A possible way to enjoy time on the lake when a local operator is running. Ask about current availability, the permitted area and safety rules before setting out.

Water skiing

Consider this only through a suitably qualified operator and where it is permitted. Availability, permissions, equipment and conditions must be confirmed before you make plans.

Boat trips & organised outings

Trips on Olympia and other organised outings depend on the current schedule, weather and operator. Check the official announcements for the day you intend to visit.

Organised activities are not provided by the property. Confirm operation, suitability and availability directly with the relevant operator.

04 · OUTDOORS

Forests, peaks & adventure

Grammos and Vitsi open up a different route beyond the town.

Hiking & mountaineering on Grammos

Choose a route that matches your fitness and experience. For demanding or unfamiliar terrain, arrange an experienced guide and check weather, equipment and access beforehand.

Outings on Vitsi

Forests and mountain landscapes reveal another side of the region. Adapt your route to conditions and check access, especially in winter. Do not assume that ski services are operating.

Forest walks

Choose established, marked routes and walk with company. Carry water, suitable footwear and an offline map; do not rely on mobile coverage alone.

Mountain biking

Mountain routes call for a suitable bicycle, a helmet and an honest assessment of the terrain. Seek local advice on access and permitted routes.

Organised 4×4 excursions

Choose a responsible operator using permitted routes. Confirm that the activity is currently running, check access conditions and ask what the experience includes.

Aerial sightseeing / paratrike

Current availability with an active operator has not been verified. If you are interested, confirm operation, professional qualifications, insurance and weather conditions before making any arrangement.

Landscape & wildlife photography

Allow time to pause and keep your distance from wildlife. Do not feed or approach animals, and stay on permitted routes.

For demanding outings, prepare carefully, carry suitable equipment and seek local guidance. Change your plans if weather or conditions are unsuitable.
